Battered Women’s Justice Campaign

Since 2005, the Battered Women’s Justice Campaign has been transforming two of New York City’s most complex systems—the Family Court and Integrated Domestic Violence (IDV) Court. Voices of Women members lead the charge to ensure these courts:

  • Take domestic violence allegations seriously.
  • Hold abusers accountable.
  • Make custody decisions that protect both children and survivors.
  • Ensure judges, lawyers, and law guardians are responsible for their actions.

Housing Justice Campaign

Finding safe, affordable housing in New York City is challenging, and for survivors using domestic violence shelters, the barriers are even greater. Voices of Women members are working to:

  • End the NYC Housing Authority’s burdensome requirement for two types of documentation of abuse before offering housing quickly.
  • Extend domestic violence shelter stays beyond 135 days, giving survivors real options instead of forcing them into unsafe or uncertain situations.
  • Collaborate with community partners to secure permanent, safe housing solutions for survivors.

Rights of Children Coalition

Children should never endure unnecessary trauma due to false abuse claims. When abusers make malicious reports, the child welfare system can cause further harm. Voices of Women members are campaigning to:

  • Discourage false and malicious child abuse reports.
  • Develop actionable recommendations to track and address these false reports with the NYC Administration for Children Services.
  • Improve how the Child Welfare system handles cases involving domestic violence to protect both children and survivors.
