What We Are Changing
Issues We Address
Voices of Women addresses critical gaps in systems that affect survivors of domestic violence and their children:
- Court System Reform: Ensure courts prioritize victim safety, provide competent legal counsel and qualified interpreters, and educate all court personnel on domestic violence. Abuse is taken seriously in custody and visitation decisions.
- Preventing False Abuse Claims: Combat false or malicious child abuse reports by abusers or others.
- Protecting Families in Custody Cases: Safeguard women and children during custody and visitation disputes. Advocate against “parental alienation” charges for protective mothers, hold law guardians and forensic evaluators accountable, and establish mechanisms for complaints.
- Affordable Housing for Survivors: Expand access to safe, affordable housing to prevent women from remaining in abusive relationships and improve shelter and permanent housing application processes.
- Child Welfare System Improvements: Ensure survivors have input in shaping policies and that domestic violence is appropriately addressed in child welfare cases.
